2026 Cadillac XT5 vs. the Competition

2026 Cadillac XT5 vs the Competition

The XT5 is Cadillac’s entry in the luxury segment of the popular and highly competitive compact crossover genre. The model celebrates its 10th anniversary for the 2026 model year and retains its original basic design, though it received notable exterior and interior updates in 2020. Its chiseled exterior design is still fully in line with the Cadillac model line and stands out among its competitors.

The XT5 is powered by a choice of two engines. The Luxury and Premium Luxury models come with a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 producing 235 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, peaking at a low 1500 rpm. It is paired with a 9-speed automatic and can send power to either the front or all four wheels. Available on the Premium Luxury and standard on the Sport model is the 3.6-liter V-6, which bumps up horsepower to 310 and torque to 271 lb-ft while providing the smooth, linear acceleration of a V-6. This engine is also paired with the 9-speed and comes standard with AWD. Besides its luxury accouterments, the XT5 is known for its spacious cabin and generous cargo space. With a starting price of $44,800, the XT5 undercuts the price of most of its luxury-brand competitors.

2026 Cadillac XT5 vs Lexus RX 350

The original Lexus RX debuted in the1999 model year and can reasonably claim to be the first luxury crossover. Today’s 5th generation design first launched in 2023. While prior RX models offered an optional third row seat, the model line is now strictly a 5-seater, leaving third-row duties to the larger Lexus TX model line.

The RX 350 is available as a conventional gas-powered model, with a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that is good for 275 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque. There are also 350h and 500h hybrid drivetrains and a 450+ plug-in hybrid drivetrain that are not the subject of this comparison.

  • At $44,800, the XT5’s starting MSRP is considerably lower than RX 350, which starts at $52,775.
  • The XT5 9-speed transmission has one additional gear ratio than the 8-speed on the RX.
  • Both the FWD XT5 and RX 350 have EPA mpg ratings of at 22 city and 29 highway.
  • The XT5 provides a larger gas tank (19.0 gal vs. 17.8) for more range.
  • The XT5 and RX 350 are nearly identical in size with nearly the same wheelbase (112.0 inches and 112.2) and within fractions of an inch for front and rear headroom, front legroom, and rear shoulder room.
  • One significant difference in interior metrics is in rear legroom, in which the XT5 provides one more inch (39.0 inches vs. 38.0).
  • The XT5 provides effectively the same cargo space with the rear seats up (30.0 cubic feet vs. 29.6) but the XT5 provides considerably more space with the rear seatbacks folded (63.0 cubic feet vs. 46.2).
  • The XT5 has standard wireless phone charging. This requires a trim upgrade for the RX 350.

2026 Cadillac XT5 vs LIncoln Nautilus

The untimely cancellation of the Corsair in 2025 means there is no direct Lincoln rival to the XT5. Instead, the larger, more expensive, midsize Nautlius is now the closest competitor. Like the XT5, the larger Nautilus is also powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 that produces 250 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. It is connected to an 8-speed transmission and sends power to all four wheels through the standard AWD system. There is also a hybrid model that isn’t covered by this comparison.

  • With a starting MSRP of $52,775, getting into a Nautilus will cost about $8,000 more than the XT5. That leaves the XT5 Premium Luxury model as a price-comparable model to the base Nautilus.
  • With 250 horsepower to the XT5’s 235, and 280 lb-ft of peak torque to the XT5’s 258, the base Nautilus has a little more power than the XT5, but it also weighs about 350 pounds more.
  • It costs a bit more, but the XT5 Sport Premium with the V-6 option will outpower the Nautilus in horsepower (310 vs. 250) and come close in torque (271 vs. 280).
  • Features on the XT5 Premium Luxury trim that are not included on the price-comparable Nautilus include:
    • Panoramic moonroof
    • Leather seating
    • Hands-free power liftgate
    • Automatic Parallel and perpendicular (backing in) parking
    • Dual setting driver position memory (vs. single setting)
    • 14-speaker Bose vs. non-brand 10-speaker audio system
  • In the 2026 J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study, which looks at reliability after three years of ownership, Cadillac placed fourth overall with 175 problems per 100 vehicles compared to Lincoln, which placed under the industry average at 18th with 217 problems per 100 vehicles.

2026 Cadillac XT5 vs Acura RDX

The Acura RDX’s history has seen it oscillate between a sporty and a luxury vehicle. Today’s RDX attempts to bridge the divide, utilizing a 272-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder, a ten-speed automatic, and a trick torque-vectoring AWD system, designed to maximize traction and sharpen handling. Interestingly, 2026 is the last model year for this iteration of the RDX; a hybrid fourth-generation model isn’t expected until 2028 or so.

Acura doesn’t name its trim levels but instead defines them by packages. In ascending order, they are the Technology, A-spec, Advance, and then A-Spec Advance packages.

  • Starting MSRP for both models is within a few hundred dollars of each other.
  • The XT5 provides more drivetrain choices, including two engines and the choice between FWD and AWD. The RDX model line offers only the single inline-4 engine and AWD.
  • The choices above mean that if you don’t need AWD, you can get better city/highway/combined fuel economy on the XT5 (22 / 29 / 24 MPG city/ highway/ combined vs. 21 / 27 / 23 MPG) with the 2.0L engine.
  • The XT5 also has a notably larger fuel tank for less frequent stops (19.0 gallons vs. 17.1)
  • The XT5 is available with 310 horsepower from the 3.6-liter V-6, while 272 is as high as the RDX offers.
  • A more stable highway ride is inherent in the XT5 with its almost 4-inch longer wheelbase (112.0 inches vs. 108.3).
  • Rear passengers get about a half inch more headroom (38.4 inches vs. 38.0) and a full inch more in legroom (39.0 inches vs. 38.0).
  • When you do venture off the pavement, the XT5 has significantly greater ground clearance than the RDX (7.8 inches vs. 5.7).
  • Standard features on the XT5 that require an upgrade on the RDX include:
    • Remote engine start
    • Parking sensors
    • Premium Audio system (Bose)

2026 Cadillac XT5 vs Audi Q5

The Q5 is Audi’s largest two-row crossover. It is now in its third generation, with this iteration debuting in 2025. Like many models in this class, the Q5 is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 that produces 268 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Power is managed by a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and sent to all four wheels through a standard AWD system. Audi markets a Sportback version of the Q5 with a fastback roofline, but this comparison will focus on the more conventionally shaped Q5.

  • At $54,195, the Q5 has a significantly higher price of entry than the XT5. Even with available AWD, the $47,595 XT5 is notably more affordable.
  • Though a little more expensive at $57,620, the XT5 Premium Luxury trim is more price-comparable to the base Q5.
  • The XT5 offers you more drivetrain choices, including two engines and the option of FWD or AWD. The Q5 model line offers only one inline-4 engine and AWD.
  • The XT5 beats the Q5 in most passenger-compartment dimensions, including:
    • Front headroom: (39.7 inches vs. 38.2)
    • Front leg room: (41.2 inches vs. 40.9)
    • Rear Legroom: (39.0 inches vs. 38.0)
    • Rear shoulder room: (56.3 inches vs. 55.9)
  • The XT5 also offers more cargo space, both with the rear seats up (30.0 cubic feet vs. 27.6) and with the rear seatbacks folded (63.0 cubic feet vs. 60.4).
  • While delivering quick gear changes in high-performance driving, the Q5’s dual-clutch transmission can feel rough or jittery when starting from a stop and at low speeds. This can be particularly noticeable in congested traffic.
  • Standard features on the XT5 Premium Luxury model vs. the base Q5 include:
    • Surround-view camera system
    • Premium Audio system (14-speaker Bose)
    • Heated steering wheel
    • Ambient interior lighting
    • In-board W-Fi
    • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
    • Automatic parking assist
    • Head-up display
